Capella University PhD Graduate Named a Dean at Anoka-Ramsey Community College

Minneapolis (PRWeb) January 18, 2007 -- Dr. Janet (Shelli) Lampi, a PhD graduate of Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited, fully online university based in Minneapolis, has been named dean of educational services over nursing and physical therapy assistants for Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, Minn. She began in the position on Nov. 15, 2006.

In her new position, Lampi will be responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and guidance to the nursing programs at the college's Coon Rapids and Cambridge campuses, as well the Physical Therapy Assistants program. She is also charged with developing a vision for the future of healthcare programs at the college. Anoka-Ramsey Community College has been a leading provider of higher education and training in the north suburban area of Minneapolis/St. Paul and east central Minnesota since 1965. The college serves more than 9,000 students and is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.

Lampi graduated from Capella in August, 2006, with a PhD in education with a specialization in higher education administration. More than 1,000 teachers, principals, and superintendents have chosen Capella to achieve their master's or doctoral degrees. Nearly 85 percent of Capella's students are pursuing master's or PhD degrees online.

"Following my graduation from Capella, I began to look for positions for which I was now qualified because of my PhD," Lampi recalls. "I very much believe you need a solid, quality educational background to be an effective administrator in higher education. My education at Capella proved to be a solid, broad, credible education, and it is serving me very well."

Previously, Lampi served as an adjunct faculty member for 18 years at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn. She also served as Director of Presentation College (out of Aberdeen, SD), leading them in the establishment of a branch in Fairmont, Minn., which offers nursing and other allied health programs.

Why the Nursing Community is Crucial to the Medical Community
Nurses are a vital part of the medical community. There are over 2.5 million nurses in the United States, and nursing is the largest employer in the healthcare field. At a time when teacher and nurse where the two traditional career paths for women, many of the nurses that are reaching retirement age now chose nursing as a career. As other fields of study opened up, fewer women chose to enter the nursing field. That is offset slightly by the fact that m...
