Peace One Day Founder Launches First Ever Digiwristband to Unite the World Online and Create the Planet's Largest Ever Peace Community

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 26, 2007 -- Jeremy Gilley, British filmmaker and founder of Peace One Day, today officially launches the world's first "digiwristband" at Peace One Day (http://www.peaceoneday.org) to unite and inspire other individuals across the globe to make a commitment for Peace Day on 21 September 2007.

Jeremy Gilley says, "We aim to create the largest ever socially networked peace community on the planet, giving billions of internet users around the world a chance to demonstrate their commitment to peace and non-violence. I invite individuals everywhere to join us by making their own commitment for Peace Day 21 September and creating their unique POD 'digiwristband'. If we are to move from a culture of war to a culture of peace, then we have to unite, and Peace Day 21 September is the starting point."

The Peace One Day "digiwristband" represents a digital evolution of the rubber wristband phenomenon spearheaded by Lance Armstrong. The Peace One Day "digiwristband" gives today's digitally connected global community an environmentally-friendly way to express and share their commitment to peace through their websites, blogs, email signatures, MySpace or Facebook profiles and screen savers, creating the planet's largest ever peace community in support of Peace Day 21 September.

Everyone who logs their personal commitment for Peace Day at www.peaceoneday.org, receives a "digiwristband" with a unique number and access to exclusive content, including other people's commitments from around the world. Individuals can invite friends and family to create a "digiwristband", which displays their own personal commitment -- anything from "I will say sorry to a friend because it's never too late" to "I will sing a song with my entire school to celebrate Peace Day" to "I will write a letter to a politician and ask them to acknowledge Peace Day" -- and help grow the largest community dedicated to peace in the world.

Peace One Day began as a film project founded by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999 to establish the first ever-annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence. In 2001 the Day was unanimously adopted by UN member states as 21 September annually -- Peace Day. In 2006, for the first time in the Day's history, Peace One Day successfully drove the initiative to instigate commitments to Peace Day in 200 countries, including all 192 UN member states, directly involving 27.6 million people. Jeremy Gilley has amassed an impressive list of high profile supporters through his work including Chris Martin, Sam Taylor Wood, Jonny Lee Miller, Simon Fuller, Sir Richard Branson, Kofi Annan and others.

On Peace Day, Friday 21 September, there will be activity taking place in hundreds of countries around the world. At Peace One Day's flagship concert at the Royal Albert Hall a host of star names will perform live and contribute through messages and films. Annie Lennox, Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison, Beth Orton and Marc Almond will all perform live, and they will be supported by video messages and specially filmed pieces by David Beckham, Jude Law, Lord David Puttnam and others.

Annie Lennox, who makes her first public appearance of the year at the event, comments: "Something that's of common interest to every man, woman and child on the planet must surely be the notion of 'Peace'. Without 'Peace' we cannot survive. Valentines Day is on the 14 February. Christmas Day is on the 25 December. Peace Day has been established by the United Nations on the 21 September and the whole world is invited to participate. This September 21 a special musical event will be taking place at The Royal Albert Hall to celebrate and commemorate the spirit of the occasion. I'm thrilled and delighted to be part of it, and to contribute to making 'Peace One Day' become an inspirational reality.'

People can create their own "digiwristband", make their personal pledge towards peace and become a peacemaker at http://www.peaceoneday.org All peacemakers will receive access to exclusive digital content, streamed in partnership with Brightcove, a leading Internet TV service provider. The Peace One Day website will show a series of short films to explain Peace One Day's work around the world, in order to inspire individuals to get involved on Peace Day, 21 September. Additionally, people will be invited to send in user-generated footage that documents their Peace Day commitment in action, and engage in a highly creative process.

The Peace One Day "digiwristband" and Peace One Day website were designed by award-winning interactive agency AKQA.
