NBA Player Ben Gordon's 3rd Annual Community Unity Weekend in Mount Vernon, NY

Mount Vernon, New York (PRWEB) August 9, 2007 -- The City of Mount Vernon, Mayor Ernest D. Davis, Ben Gordon, the Mount Vernon Mayor's Third Street Task Force, Mount Vernon Department of Public Works, Mount Vernon Department of Recreation and Mount Vernon Family YMCA are sponsoring the 3rd Annual Ben Gordon Community Unity Weekend. The leading scorer for the Chicago Bulls, Ben Gordon, once again comes home to Mount Vernon for this electrifying and educational event, which this year has expanded to two days -- Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25, 2007. Festivities will be held in Mount Vernon's Hartley Park (corners of East Lincoln & Gramatan Avenues -- at the Roundabout).

Ben wowed this community when he played for the Mount Vernon High School Championship Knights. He helped lead the way for UConn's 2004 NCAA Championship, and was named the 1st Rookie in NBA History to receive the Sixth Man of the Year Award during the 2004/2005 season. Mount Vernon's basketball superstar will be back in town with a bigger and better family event. This year Ben has scheduled two days of activities focusing on family and community unity. The festivities kick off with an outdoor youth concert at City Hall Plaza. The following day Hartley Park will be the site for an action-packed day of family fun and basketball thrills.
