The Code Project? Releases Award-Winning Ultimate Toolbox MFC Libraries To Its Developer Community Under Open Source License
Toronto, Ontario, Canada (PRWEB) September 17, 2007 -- The Code Project? (www.codeproject.com), the world's largest independent Microsoft® developer community, now offers its popular collection of MFC (Microsoft Foundation Class) libraries, including Ultimate Toolbox, Ultimate Grid, and Ultimate TCP/IP to The Code Project development community free of charge under an open source license.
"We founded The Code Project to support and encourage exactly this kind of open exchange of ideas," said David Cunningham, Co-founder of The Code Project. "The Ultimate Toolbox suite includes over 300 MFC classes that any C++ developer can take advantage of."
The Ultimate Toolbox family, winner of both a PC Magazine Editors Choice award and a Software Development Product Excellence Finalist designation, includes not only excellent grid and TCP/IP libraries, but comprises a complete set of class libraries. These libraries include capabilities for, among others, building graphical user interfaces (GUIs), managing user input, database access, file management, and customizing application interfaces and appearances using a custom framework and skins.
"The Code Project represents the huge community still using and developing C++ and MFC code," said Chris Maunder, Co-founder of The Code Project. "MFC remains critically important to both commercial and enterprise software, and our releasing The Ultimate Toolbox to this influential community reflects that importance."
The Ultimate Toolbox and line of related MFC libraries products have been powering professional MFC applications for more than 10 years. The Code Project is making the complete libraries available, including source code, documentation, samples and examples. The libraries are compatible with Microsoft Visual Studio versions 6.0 through 2005.
The Code Project community has responded enthusiastically to this release. "This is the biggest thing to happen to VC++ since 1998 after the 6.0 release," posted one member. Another wrote, "This event definitely deserves to be marked in bold in the history of C++ and MFC."
"We believe in the strength and importance of MFC and C++ development," said Jeff Hadfield, President of The Code Project. "Microsoft's focus on .NET should not come at the price of neglecting C++. We hope that this open source release will not only serve the millions of C++ developers in The Code Project's community, but also send a clear message about the importance and vitality of C++ and MFC."
