DecorAveGifts.com Gives Back to the Community

Melbourne, FL (PRWEB) February 14, 2008 -- Giving back to the community has always been important to Thomas Delaine, owner of www.DecorAveGifts.com. "I have been working with the community for a long time, doing a tremendous amount of work and support for the Boy Scouts," he explains. "I'm a scoutmaster, and I'm heavily involved in that. With all the phone calls I get on a continual basis from every charity organization out there, I thought I should formulate a business where part of the proceeds went to help other people in need, providing them with much-needed income. The primary motivator was to help me help other people."

With that in mind, Thomas began looking for a way to start a business that benefitted local charities, and found his answer in an unusual way. "I work out at a gym, and they always have monitors up while you're working out. I saw an ad about starting a web business, and it inspired me to start my business online. Because of my opportunities to see the world while I was in the US Navy, I was able to go to the Far East, and I gained an appreciation for Eastern décor. It's an area I'm very interested in, and there's a tremendous amount of history there, so that's where I started."

Thomas set his web site up in October of '07, and only recently opened it to the public, offering his unique blend of crafts from the Orient. "I think the items speak to my understanding that we live in a global society" he explains, showing off his catalog. "My belief is that I cannot function and appreciate and understand what is happening in the world if I'm not able to understand what is out there. What I want to offer is to help people realize that there is more than what is going on in the USA -- I'm very proud to be an American, but for us to take that next step as a leader in the free world, we need to be aware that beauty isn't just restricted to the United States. There are other beautiful places where culture has existed and grown for thousands of years, and they've allowed us to reach in and understand who they are."

With that in mind, Thomas set up his blog at www.FarEastDecorAve.com, allowing him to educate customers about his products and to share his thoughts on charity and the global marketplace. "I want to use the blog as a way of getting to know my customers; understanding what their likes and dislikes are, seeing what they are really looking for," says Thomas. "I want to use it as an educational tool, as well -- an opportunity to talk about the items, their historical significance, their importance and craftsmanship. Things that allow them to be more than just an object in a home, making them a conversation piece. It's also a place where customers can teach me -- I don't claim to know everything, and I'm interested in learning whatever I can."

All of this, of course, leads back to Thomas' goal of running the web site to give back to his community. "I'm an individual who believes the rule taught to me in the military -- you can delegate authority, but you can never delegate responsibility. After seeing Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I was inspired to help people. I'm doing it from a local level to support the programs that enhance our youth: the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, and the Boys & Girls Club." Thomas plans to reevaluate the charities to which he donates often, seeking out new beneficiaries to help and encouraging others through his blog to donate, as well.

4 Step Guide To Ultimate Blog Success
It is a common misconception that you must have a website in order to truly make money on the internet.
