KUA Receives National Award for Community Service

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) June 29, 2008 -- The American Public Power Association has presented its 2008 Community Service Award to Kissimmee Utility Authority for the utility's longstanding commitment to serving the needs of the local community. The award was presented June 24 at the association's national conference in New Orleans, La.

KUA was recognized for its ongoing support of community service efforts involving youth and education, civic service, arts and culture, the environment, safety, health and human services and economic development.

"Partnering with the community is a core value of our organization and part of our mission statement," said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. "I am thrilled that KUA has again received national recognition for its work in the local community."

Last year, KUA and its employees supported more than 250 community projects and activities. Notable projects included the "Flee to be Free" child abduction awareness program, voter registration drives, community blood drives, summer camp for at-risk youth, holiday toy drives and free swimming lessons for families unable to afford them. In addition, the utility sponsored a student art contest designed to encourage the conservation of electricity among utility customers.

KUA is the only Florida utility to have received the award twice, having also won it in 1995.
