Complex Environmental Law Issues in Plain English on New Periconi Firm Blog
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 6, 2006 -- Environmental lawyer James Periconi adds to an already impressive career as an environmental law practitioner with a new Environmental Law Blog, geared to provide clients with an understanding of how environmental law affects their businesses. This will include basic education in a practical, "how-to" manner, as well as more traditional, newsletter-type information about new legislation and regulatory developments in environmental law.
The Blog plans to keep clients and friends of the firm informed on a practical level about legislative, regulatory and litigation developments in more than 13 practice areas including: cost and recovery, enforcement actions, due diligence, oil and gas spills and wetland permits.
Additionally, the Blog will be a platform to exchange ideas among the environmental law community, especially about some of the newer topics of interest, such as environmental insurance, including cost cap and pollution legal liability policies and their pro's and cons. The Blog will allow businesses to see the basics of environmental law and to formally understand how Periconi's lawyers solve multifaceted legal and business problems. Above all, the Blog translates the firm's case experience into sensible, practical advice for clients.
The Environmental Law Blog is a natural outgrowth of Mr. Periconi's extensive speaking and writing experience on environmental topics, in addition to his practice focus on a broad range of environmental litigation and regulatory matters, and his work as expert witness in federal and state cases, as well as special master assignments. "I really enjoy translating complex legal topics into practical advice for businesses. I also know that clients achieve a far greater degree of environmental compliance when they understand why the government regulates their activities. This makes my job easier and, more importantly, translates into good relationships between businesses and the government agencies that regulate them," Periconi said.
Before he began his legal career, in fact, Mr. Periconi planned to teach at the college level, working towards a Ph.D. in literature as a prestigious Danforth Graduate Fellow. He credits his education at Manhattan's famous Regis High School as well as at Columbia College, for his careers as legal practitioner, teacher and leader. Periconi earned his J.D. from New York University's School of Law. As Chair of the Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (2003-2004), he had the opportunity both to lead his section of the organized Bar and lecture and write on environmental law topics even more than usual.
Prior to entering private practice, Periconi served as Chief of the Solid and Hazardous Waste Enforcement Bureau with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. He was also an Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Protection Bureau of the New York State Department of Law for many years.
The first posting to Periconi, LLC's Environmental Law Blog covers the "Basics of the "Oil Spill Act," Article 12 of the New York Navigation Law."

Investing In China: Chinese Banks
China?s banking sector has traditionally served as a party-controlled feeding trough for its inefficient, unprofitable state-owned enterprises (SOEs), most of which were technically insolvent. The process was simple ? extend a loan to an unqualified SOE applicant, then write off the loan as a bad debt when it failed to repay. This situation is beginning to change, and Chinese banks are attracting the attention of foreign banks that are beginning to view them as investment opportunities rather than potential competitors. Nevertheless, China?s banking industry is beset by several problems.
