New Photobook Celebrates China

SANTA FE, NM (PRWEB) July 12, 2006 -- A new photobook on China showing some of the work of a retired journalism professor has just been released.

“A smart eye in China” by R. Thomas Berner presents about 60 of the 10,000 images he has taken during his seven visits or extended stays in China. He first went to China as a Fulbright lecturer in 1994 and returned in a similar capacity in the fall of 2005. In between he visited five other times.

Most of his photos focus on people, although he has some of the pandas in the Beijing Zoo.

Berner is a professor emeritus of journalism and American studies at the Pennsylvania State University who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He recently published a novel titled “Extra! Extra! Read all about it. Jimmy Olson saves Las Vegas,” published by Aventine Press.
The 63-page photobook was published by Lulu.

The Great Wall of China was originally created in 221 BC by joining several local walls which were built by ducal states to defend their own territories. Construction continued up to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), when the Great Wall became the world's largest military structure. The current measurement of this defensive wall, which stretches across northern China from east to west, is 7300 kilometers (4300 miles).
